This figure, a baSotho stick fighter, is a  metamorphosis of a formerly enslaved individual who jumped off a slave ship only to survive and morph into an ancestral metsi being  (metsi means water in seTswana). Molamus, or stick fighting in Sotho, symbolizes courage, strength, and is a mode of self-defense.
